Liquor, Love and Adventure for Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is coming and you should have something in hand for your significant other. That special gift whether it is jewelry, a bottle of wine, champagne, chocolates, caviar, or gourmet basket, shows your paying attention to your significant other. There are many types of champagnes to choose from. Many couples celebrate with a nice rose like Moet Rose ($53), Perrier Jouet Fleur de Champagne (Flower Bottle) ($115), Nuvo Sparkling ($31), or Rosa Regale ($21). What is champagne without caviar? Caviar is generally available in 1-4 oz containers in various types. There is Trout Caviar 1oz ($7) that is very good, orange in color, and economically priced. American Black Caviar ($12), Osetra ($157), and Sevruga ($143) are also available around town.

Finer chocolates are rising in the United States due to consumers demanding finer quality of chocolates. I recently read a report that stated “up until two years ago, for most, indulging in this treat meant unwrapping a low-quality bar made mostly with sugar that was bought at a drugstore or supermarket. Today, people are no longer content with mediocre chocolate, they want the good kind. The American palate for chocolate has changed significantly in the last few years, and we have become far more sophisticated in our tastes," says Susan Fussel, spokeswoman for the National Confectioners Association (NCA), the Vienna, Va.-based trade organization for the candy industry. (Gourmet Retailer, Jan 4, 2008). Belgian and French chocolates have gained significant drive in the US market place. Experts say the driving force behind these changing taste buds is the mass availability of better-quality chocolate. In my research, I found chocolates ranging from $900-$2,600 per pound. I believe a nice Belgium chocolate around $40.00 per pound is a nice treat.

For those couples that do not like champagne, caviar, and chocolates, another suggestion could be a mixed drink with various spirits for the occasion. I found a few recipes that you might like. Valentine’s Day Rum Cream consists of: 8 oz Myers Dark Rum, 14 oz condensed milk, 1 egg, 1 tablespoon vanilla. Mix all in the blender for several minutes the day before and refrigerate overnight.  Valentine’s Day Peachy Corkscrew consists of: 1 oz light rum, ¼ oz dry vermouth, ¼ oz peach schnapps, and 1 slice lime. Shake all liquid ingredients, strain into chilled glass, garnish with lime. Fuzzy Balls for Valentine’s Day consists of: ½ oz peach schnapps, ½ oz vodka, ½ oz midori, 1 ½ oz grapefruit juice, and 1 ½ oz cranberry juice. Shake and serve in chilled glass. Valentine’s Day Woo Woo consists of: ½ oz peach schnapps, ½ oz vodka, 1 ½ oz cranberry juice, 1 ½ oz orange juice. Mix all ingredients and serve on the rocks.

And now for the adventure, finding life a little bored, same old thing, well spice it up with various games. I found a wonderful body frosting kit with paint brushes. Come on it is Valentine’s Day use your imagination. With paint brushes and 5 different body frosting’s ($14) you can find a flavor that each person will like. Another idea is Chocolate Edible Tattoo set ($13). The kit consists of a jar of body frosting and stencils with various intimate words to help you craft a provocative design. Say it with chocolate! Then eat your words! How about the ultimate game Strip Chocolate the game of sensual pleasure. Your clothes will come off. The chocolate will go on. Play by the rules and everybody wins. It's fun! It's sexy! It's very, very tasty.

Not there yet, how about Truth, Dare or Chocolate. From the makers of the wildly popular Strip Chocolate, comes a new and revealingly delicious adult dessert game – Truth, Dare or Chocolate ($20). Chocoholics have given the age-old game of Spin the Bottle a new chocolate twist. If you are hungry for dessert and some very seductive action, turn the lights on low, spread out a comforter and get ready for some embarrassing, but titillating fun. You will earn points for telling Truths, taking Dares and tattooing your partner with delicious Chocoholics Body Frosting ($14). Two new items just in are Chocolate Lover Girl and Chocolate Lover Boy ($6 each). If I still have not struck a chord yet, let’s try a gourmet “Bitch” basket which consists of: a bottle of Bitch wine, Bitch mints, a bustier cookie, and various other delectables. For him Fat Bastard wine, FU mints, and various other delectables.
